It’s becoming increasingly clear that someone is pushing stories to the Italian media about Manchester United wanting Kim Min-jae and making moves to sign the Napoli player.

The defender is thought to have a release clause worth €50-60m, with different newspapers occasionally putting it at different amounts.

Manchester United claims have been rising, and in some of the more reliable outlets too. It’s edging forward from a ‘could’ to a more expected slant, and there’s now repeat articles about who Napoli could sign to replace him.

Earlier today we covered claims from Corriere Dello Sport which stated Manchester United are in advanced talks with the player’s entourage.

La Repubblica, another major Italian newspaper, provides another take. They say, via CalcioNapoli24, ‘Manchester United are ‘ready to pay the €60m release clause’.

The Serie A club have tried to get their player to remove the clause, but he’s not interested. That’s encouraged them to think he wants out, with it further stated he’s been offered, presumably by the Red Devils, a salary worth €6m a year after tax.

What would cause doubts here is that Manchester United’s greatest area of transfer need is not central defence, so paying €60m for a new one could be seen as extravagant in the current circumstances.

However, it’s clear someone is absolutely encouraging these stories.
