Even though Sergio Romero’s departure from Manchester United seemed certain when the January transfer window was opened, we’ve got to the middle of the month and he doesn’t seem any close to any club.
The player first ruled out a move back to Argentina, and despite saying there were several clubs in England wanting him, there haven’t been any reports that a move is imminent.
One of these interested sides in Europe would be Deportivo La Coruña, whose interest has been reported repeatedly for a couple of weeks or so.
Outlet AS claims the club are indeed looking for a new goalkeeper, but Romero is just one of the many options they have on the table.
Now that Kiko Casilla is ruled out, AS claims Romero and Soria are some of the options, ‘but not the only’. So even though the idea is to close a deal this week, it’s clear that the Manchester United player isn’t on the verge of being announced or anything of that sort.
So as we’re still to see the English clubs who are after Romero, it seems that the race for him in Spain doesn’t look very hot either.
