We must admit we were rather surprised when we saw that River Plate striker Rafael Borre is now getting linked to Manchester United by certain members of the sports media.

During the weekend, several websites have been claiming the 25-year-old could replace Edinson Cavani, who is expected to be on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer.

Most of these outlets are from Spain, with the likes of Gol Digital, Fichajes and Todo Mercado Web all writing stories about the chase and crediting TNT Sports for the information.

The issue here is that we couldn’t find anything from the Argentine outlet about Manchester United and Borre.

Moreover, the local media doesn’t seem to have even heard of this story, as they’re completely silent about it.

That makes it a strange situation, since Borre is the main striker of one of the biggest clubs in the country, which is a pretty good reason for this rumour to be in the headlines over the past couple of days if it existed.

Rafael Borre is about to become a free agent, and even though he had good offers from Brazil just a few months ago, the player chose to stay at River Plate, where his contract expires in the summer.

The situation undoubtedly makes it easy for any side who have been interested in him, although it’s a little weird to see Manchester United being linked to the player at this stage.

For the past few years, the striker has been linked to the likes of Crystal Palace and Brighton, but never with clubs from the Premier League’s top six.
