Earlier on Monday, a report from Spain claimed Eric Garcia’s move to Barcelona was edging ever closer.

Marca explained ‘an agreement is very close’ between the Manchester City player and his former club, and this is all backed up by Mundo Deportivo this afternoon.

The Spanish newspaper make it clear from the off that ‘if nothing goes wrong, Eric Garcia will be a Barcelona player next season’.

It’s explained the La Liga side and the player’s agent ‘face the final stretch of the negotiations’ and that ‘optimism grows on both sides as the meetings progress’.

While it might not be immediate, the belief from sources close to the negotiation told Mundo Deportivo: “In the end, we will reach an agreement”.

The newspaper reckon ‘it’s a matter of days’ following the decision from Barcelona to lower their initial offer ‘given the economic situation of the club’.

That didn’t sit well with Garcia, but it’s revealed another path was found in talks, one filled with ‘variables for objectives’ that the footballer accepted.

However, should an agreement be reached, Mundo state ‘there is no intention of announcing the signing’ while Manchester City are still fighting for titles, out of ‘prudence and respect’ for the club they are taking him away from.
