The Frenkie de Jong saga continues in the Catalan media, although the situation seems a little brighter for Manchester United than it was this time last week.

Tuesday’s edition of Sport covers the player’s wage situation in depth, specifically the money he’s owed after deferring his wages. They state, as most people expected, that the midfielder doesn’t want to agree a move until that financial situation is sorted out, and that’s what has been holding up the matter.

A meeting is set to be held ‘very soon’ and there’s hope that such talks can push things forward and make a move happen.

According to the report, Manchester United will absolutely not give up and are convinced the player is open to signing for them. Erik ten Hag has been speaking to De Jong repeatedly, and clearly hasn’t been told there’s no chance of a deal happening.

Chelsea get a mention again, although Sport say Manchester United ‘know they are favourites’ to seal the deal, and will wait until the end of the window.

Obviously, everyone hopes the situation is resolved before then.
