This week, reports from Brazil claimed Benfica were interested in signing Manchester United fullback Alex Telles.

As the Eagles look for a replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo, who left for Bayern Leverkusen on a free transfer, they’d now chase the Red Devils’ fullback.

However, as Portuguese newspaper Record today features a piece in this situation, they completely dismiss this interest in the Manchester United player.

The outlet writes that Telles ‘was never in the plans’ of the Lisbon side. It’s claimed that even though the fullback is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, he ‘will not go’ to Benfica.

Just to confirm once again, Record writes that the Eagles have ‘several’ targets to replace Grimaldo, and Telles is not one of them.

There may be a reason why this rumour is being rejected so firmly, and that’s because Telles used to play for Benfica’s rivals Porto, who were even linked to him in the past few weeks.

What also seems clear is that the Brazilian is not in Manchester United’s plans for the season, and should soon leave on a permanent deal when they find him a new club.
