Manchester United remain labelled as the main contenders for the signing of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, and Portuguese newspaper O Jogo shares some details on that potential summer transfer.

It’s no secret that the Dragons are in need of making a big sale before the end of the month, and according to the newspaper, that’s been making the interested clubs try to sign him for a lot less than his release clause.

Porto, however, have been using reports from the CIES Football Observatory to say his valuation has been going up to €65m, and continue to use the €75m clause as a reference.

That’s where Manchester United are brought in. O Jogo points out David De Gea still hasn’t signed a new contract, and with Erik ten Hag wanting a more modern goalkeeper, Costa seems to fit right in. The problem is that the Red Devils don’t want to reach that price demanded by the Dragons.

The newspaper ends up showing that’s an understandable decision, showing that only Kepa Arrizabalaga was a goalkeeper signed for more than that. That’s why Porto may become more flexible, and try to use performance goals to make the price bigger.

The story points out that Costa is currently out with the national team, and the process for his sale ‘should accelerate’ after the international games.

It’s clear that Porto need the big sale, and Manchester United can definitely use that on their side.
