The offers for the Italian goalkeeper Alex Meret will be analysed at the end of the season, his agent has revealed, with Manchester United said to be interested in the player.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport (via Calcio Mercato.it), Federico Pastorelli claimed there’s big interest in his player, and a decision regarding his future is still to be made.
“On him there are many Italian and foreign teams, we will evaluate the opportunities at the end of the season with the club he belongs to, the agent claimed.
Speaking about the chances of the goalkeeper being a reserve in a major club, which he would be somewhere the size of Manchester United, Pastorelli said: “I think you can even consider growing behind a great goalkeeper because the guy has never played in Serie A. The boy’s quality is high so we do not hurry to get to the objective of being a starter for a great team.”
The Italian press has been claiming that a race for Meret is being formed. Last week, Tuttosport said Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United would all be keen on him, with Chelsea a little bit behind in the competition.
Manchester United were said to have even made an approach about signing Meret, although it was clear whether this approach was to the player or his club.
Meret belongs to Udinese, but is on loan at second division SPAL until the end of the season. Udinese planned to use him for at least one year, but with all these big clubs going for him it’s likely he’ll have to be sold before he wears their shirt.
Even if David De Gea was to leave Manchester United, Alex Meret wouldn’t be a consideration for first choice goalkeeper. There’s every chance Sergio Romero could leave this summer, with questions in Argentina about his national place, but Joel Pereira will fancy taking that spot.
