Real Madrid goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois has admitted he knows Liverpool are gunning for revenge when they face each other in the Champions League this week.
Tele Madrid cover comments from the Belgian goalkeeper today as he gears up to travel to Anfield to take on Arne Slot’s Liverpool side on Wednesday.
The two sides head into the in different form, with Liverpool currently top of the Champions League table and the Premier League after a flying start to life under their new manager.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, sit in 18th place in the Champions League standings and four points behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
It’s been a difficult few months for them as injuries have taken their toll on the squad and Carlo Ancelotti has struggled to adapt Kylian Mbappe into his team.
History is in their favour when it comes to facing Liverpool, though, with seven wins to the Reds’ three and wins in 2023, the 2022 final, the 2021 quarter finals and the 2018 final in their recent history. In fact, Liverpool’s last win was a 4-0 success at Anfield in 2009.
Courtois is aware of that history, having played a part in it himself, and knows Liverpool will probably want revenge.
“Liverpool is a team with a new coach after many years with Klopp,” he said.
“Now with Arne Slot it is a very dynamic, offensive team, with the same dynamic. With a lot of pressure, a lot of attacks, good counterattacks and a lot of speed up front.
“Playing at Anfield for them is a plus. They will surely be very keen on us because they lost the final in Paris and the round of 16 in 2023. They will want that little revenge and we hope to win.”
