Manchester City are ‘very well placed’ to sign Erling Haaland this summer and want to get a deal done as soon as possible to avoid a ‘soap opera’ this summer.

That’s according to Marca, who provide a look at the player’s future today and continue the trend towards Manchester City.

As you’ll be aware, Haaland is set to be available this summer with a release clause at Borussia Dortmund, valued somewhere between €75m and €90m, coming into effect.

That’s put all the top clubs in Europe on alert as they consider the figure a bargain price for a player who has established himself among the elite strikers in Europe.

Manchester City are known to be keen as they seek the long-term successor to Sergio Aguero, and recent weeks have seen them put at the front of the queue for Haaland’s signature.

Reports in Spain and England have made them favourites for the Norwegian star, and Marca continue that trend today.

They say that City are ‘very well placed’ to sign him because of several factors, principally the ‘great economic power’ they have at their disposal, which means they can match the asking price and the player’s salary demands.

Pep Guardiola’s presence at the Etihad is also important, as he offers a certain ‘prestige’ and the type of football that means strikers regularly hit high numbers. This is something Haaland is more than aware of.

There is also the sentimental factor, given Haaland’s father, Alf Inge Haaland, spent three years with Manchester City from 2000-2003.

All of those things work in their favour, and City are ‘trying to resolve the operation’ as soon as possible to not only beat the competition but also ensure there is no ‘soap opera’ of a summer in which there is constant news about Haaland’s future.
