L’Equipe have an article in their Wednesday edition claiming Bacary Sagna is on the list for Marseille. With his Manchester City contract ending, and the club deciding not to offer a renewal, Sagna’s wages will cease at the end of June so he needs to get a move on if he doesn’t want to see a lighter bank account.

Sagna would make sense for Marseille as they look to add more experience and class to their side as part of the ‘Champions project’. Not only would the 34 year old fullback arrive from Manchester City free of charge, but he’s a recent France international, with an outside chance of playing for his country again, and he gets on very well with Patrice Evra.

For Sagna it would be a nice return to France at the end of his career, but still playing for an ambitious club… and just think of the house he could buy in the South of France.

However, L’Equipe worry that money could be a factor.

Marseille won’t match the player’s Manchester City wages, and he could find a better financial deal elsewhere. But Marseille has a lot going for it, the sun, the culture, the bouillabaisse… it’s got to be tempting compared to dropping down levels in the Premier League.
