Manchester City attacker Gabriel Jesus only had the chance to play for 55 minutes against Shakhtar Donetsk for the Champions League this Tuesday, as he was brought off by Pep Guardiola and replaced by Raheem Sterling.

Manchester City were winning the game 1-0 at the time, and still managed to enlarge the score with a late goal by the English winger.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Jesus was asked if the manager gave any explanations on why he was subbed so early in the second half, and said: “He explained. He always talks. Like I said, I accept it, I take it easy. Of course, nobody likes it. No one. Those who like to be replaced don’t want to play. Nobody likes to be replaced, but I accept it”.

As the player was moved from centre-foward to the right wing for this match, he also talked about this new positioning: “A year ago, I was playing on the wing. Now, I’m playing centre-forward. Now I started to play on the wing again. So it’s not easy. I know people can say that it’s easy, but it’s not easy. So sometimes it gets in the way, you mess up”.

Gabriel Jesus was also questioned about the negotiations for a contract renewal, which has been reported by the English media for a couple of weeks now.

Just like his agent Cristiano Simões recently told Sport Witness, the player claims that there have been no talks for now: “I don’t know of any conversation. Nothing has reached me yet, City haven’t called me, haven’t called my agent. So I don’t know of any kind of renewal. Now it’s about focus, to continue playing, helping City, which is the most important thing”.
