Fox Sports Brasil had a big claim on Monday night. Live on their show ‘Expediente Futebol’, they reported Manchester City have made a €43m offer for the Grêmio forward Éverton.

With Pep Guardiola’s side following the player for a long time, it isn’t exactly shocking to see a bid being made, although the amount sounds pretty high, in our opinion. But what sounds strange is the way the story was reported by Fox, and that’s what we will explain in his article.

It started with journalist Rodrigo Bueno. He’s tweeted: “Éverton Cebolinha close to being sold for €43m. Grêmio have 60% of him.”

Rodrigo didn’t say which club made the offer. Then João Guilherme, who was hosting Expediente Futebol a couple of hours later, said this offer was from Manchester City. He credited Rodrigo Bueno, as both work for Fox.

The journalists on the show chatted a little bit about the reported offer, and when the subject was left behind, João Guilherme tried to bring it back: “My friends, Cebolinha is leaving. Manchester United are in there too.”

Once again, Rodrigo Bueno had never mentioned Manchester City or Manchester United.

Then at past midnight, a Twitter reader asked Rodrigo what would be Everton’s destination. He replied: “The most interested are Manchester City.”

So the only information the journalist is comfortable to say is that Grêmio have a €43m offer on the table. In case it’s real, it will obviously be accepted, even though the club would only get 60% of that. According to Bueno, 30% belongs to his agents and 10% to former club Fortaleza.

Now we wait and see if it’s confirmed, and more importantly, if it’s really from Manchester City.
