On December 21st, we covered multiple claims from Italy explaining that Manchester City have made an ‘official offer’ to sign Matija Popović in the winter market.

Three days later, TuttoMercatoWeb stated Pep Guardiola’s side were close to agreeing a deal for the Serbian jewel before AC Milan took the lead.

The 18-year-old’s move to the San Siro has collapsed and that has allowed other clubs to step in and secure his services. Bild journalist Christian Falk took to X to state Manchester City are still in the picture for him.

Popović has left FK Partizan after his contract with them expired at the end of last month and is now available on a free transfer.

Falk states Manchester City are ‘interested in the player’, while the Bundesliga winners are trying to acquire his signature.

These two sides have to step up their efforts, if they wish to sign the attacking midfielder this month. That’s because the journalist says Popović is currently in Naples, negotiating a deal with Napoli.

With earlier claims explaining that Manchester City have already made an official offer to Popović, it needs to be seen whether that can help them get ahead of Napoli and Bayern.
