On Wednesday, SportBild reported that Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland’s switch to Manchester City is ‘imminent’ and there is deadline until April 30th to trigger the €75m release clause.

Sport1 explain the aforementioned date ‘does not exist’ and the striker’s camp have not yet made a decision on his future.

The Citizens’ interest is mentioned and it’s said they are ‘currently in pole position’ to sign the 21-year-old. The Premier League winners are ‘favourites’ as they are ready to pay his clause and are ‘coming closer’ to the €25m per year net salary demanded by the player.

In addition to this, there are several factors that ‘now speak for’ the Etihad club to sign the Norway international. This includes their financial strength, ‘guarantees of titles, great chance’ to win the Champions League and the ‘opportunity’ to play under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City will face competition from Real Madrid as they are still in the running. However, it will be difficult for the La Liga side to match the English champions’ financial offer to the frontman.

Sport1’s claims on Carlo Ancelotti’s side are also echoed by AS on Thursday. The latter continue to insist Haaland’s priority is to join Real Madrid, but he wants them to bet on him in the summer. If not, ‘it is possible that he will go to City’. Therefore, Guardiola’s side are sitting at the negotiating table.

Real Madrid want Haaland to make an effort like the one Kylian Mbappé has made, who picked their sporting project over the better economic offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Frenchman will land in Madrid earning half of what PSG offered [€25m net instead of €50m] and AS explain ‘the same will be asked of Haaland’.

At the moment, only City and the Spanish giants are in the race, with the former currently on pole.

AS end their report by stating ‘Florentino Pérez loves him, but Benzema’s form makes the Norwegian doubt whether he will take the final step this summer. Mbappé will enter an equation that could affect Vini and Benzema. City [are] aware, have stepped on the accelerator…’
