Manchester City’s João Cancelo has been on loan at Barcelona since last summer and they are keen on extending his stay.

Sport state the La Liga side are aware that it won’t be easy for them to negotiate with the Citizens.

It’s claimed Manchester City are not looking to let the right-back leave on another loan deal and are also handling two offers from unnamed clubs in England and Saudi Arabia.

The 29-year-old’s priority is to continue at Barca and they have left the negotiations in the hands of his agent, Jorge Mendes. He’s aware of Manchester City’s intentions, and the agent could block his client’s transfer to other clubs.

Although Cancelo’s deal at the Etihad lasts until 2027, it’s not thought he has a future there because his relationship with Pep Guardiola is broken. Therefore, Manchester City want to get rid of him permanently in the summer.

Barca are aiming for another loan deal but will have to include a mandatory purchase option to convince the Premier League winners, with City wanting around €40m.

Sport points out the interested Saudi club are willing to meet Manchester City’s request for the fullback. They add Cancelo may have a difficult decision to make if they propose a lucrative offer to him.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo state the defender wants to continue at Barca and they are also keen on retaining him. Mendes plans to hold talks with Manchester City soon, to convey the Spanish giants’ interest.

Their idea is to buy Cancelo for a reduced price of €20m or extend his loan deal.

With Sport insisting that Manchester City ‘remain firm’ on wanting €40m, Barca have to find a way to convince them, if they wish to have Cancelo at the Camp Nou next season.
