Borussia Mönchengladbach star Denis Zakaria is ‘busy with a move’, and Manchester City have ‘moved into position’ to secure his signature.
That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say the player has to be sold next summer as his contract is set to expire in 2022.
Zakaria has long been linked with a move to the Etihad, with numerous reports over the last year stating that he was a target for Pep Guardiola and co.
The rumours picked up pace this summer, with it claimed back in July that they had a good chance of securing his signature.
That never happened but the interest has not gone away, the last report in October stating that Manchester City had prepared a €40m offer for him and his club believed getting him signed to a new deal would be difficult.
Fussball Transfers back that up, claiming that according to their information remaining at Mönchengladbach is not a ‘serious option’ for the 24-year-old.
He is ‘busy’ trying to set up a move and would like to make the step up to a ‘top club’. That is something that could be on the cards, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich having ‘moved into position’.
FT stat that he ‘would have to be sold’ next summer if the German side are to get an ‘adequate transfer’ given his contract is expiring in 2022.
Zakaria, for his part, is denying the rumours, recently telling journalists; “I’ve read a lot, but it’s a lot of talk. It’s just rumours, I’m 100 per cent with Borussia Mönchengladbach and didn’t think of other clubs during my break.”
It seems, though, that isn’t the case, and the player is very much pushing to make a move happen, which is fortunate, as he has two European giants vying for him.
