Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Manchester United rumours really kicked off in September, after the player’s agent had hinted the club are one of those interested in the midfielder.

Jose Mourinho was said to be ‘enchanted’ and, as a long view to the following summer, the transfer idea made a lot of sense.

With Marouane Fellaini still not renewing, and reports he’s signing for a different Turkish club every week or so, added to Michael Carrick’s impending retirement, Manchester United will almost certainly buy a midfielder in the summer.

Mourinho has made that clear himself, publicly admitting it’s an area of the team he’ll need to add to during the next market. For the Portuguese manager, Milinkovic-Savic would bring his now proven midfield talent and also add even more height to the side, standing at 6’4”.

Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport makes it clear Manchester United are still interested, thrown in the transfer mix with neighbours Manchester City, and also Real Madrid.

The Italian newspaper are big fans of ‘SMS’ and say he ‘Delights all those who love football. Because a player like that is a pleasure to see even for those who have no heart for the colours of his shirt.’

Lazio have made it known they won’t sell for less than €100m and with some of the world’s biggest clubs interested, they may hit that figure without too much trouble. Turning 23 years of age next week, the young man could be one of the biggest stories of the summer window.
