Two days ago, Sport reported that Barcelona have started negotiations to sign Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot.

It was also stated the right-back’s contract situation at Old Trafford gives the upper-hand to the Red Devils.

His deal runs down at the end of this season and Manchester United retain an option to extend it until 2024.

Another report from Sport discusses the La Liga side’s interest in the Portugal international.

The Catalan club’s priority objective is to bolster their right side of defence and Dalot remains the ‘best placed’ target. Both Dalot and his entourage are already aware of this, along with Xavi Hernández’s approval for the defender’s arrival at the Camp Nou.

Dalot’s profile fits the need of the right-back Barcelona are looking for in the market. The Spanish giants have positioned themselves to try and sign the Manchester United star, who has become the priority target for both Xavi and the club.

There won’t be much progress made on this case at the moment. The report states that ‘appropriate decisions’ will be made in January.

United’s position remains key in the potential deal since they can extend his deal further by a year. This is something they could plan to do since he has become an undisputed starter under Erik ten Hag.

At the same time, Sport state the Dutchman’s project at Old Trafford is ‘not too convincing’ for Dalot.

Barcelona’s interest in Dalot continues to be a topic of discussion in the Catalan media. Manchester United will have to act quickly and tie him down to a new deal, if they want to avoid any risk of losing the fullback in the near future.
