While Arsenal are flourishing at the top of the Premier League this season, the same cannot be said of the players they decided to get rid of.

It was another summer of change at the Emirates, with Mikel Arteta continuing his rebuild by bringing in new faces and getting the older ones out the door.

One of those they let get was Alexandre Lacazette, who was allowed to run down his contract and depart on a free transfer.

He eventually re-joined former club Lyon but things have not been going well, as L’Equipe explain today.

They cover how both he and summer recruit Corentin Tolisso have failed to get anywhere near the required levels since their return and could now be at ‘the breaking point’.

The newspaper says it appears as if the two players have aged by ten years during their spells at Arsenal and Bayern Munich and are now ‘caught up in the mediocrity of a decaying team’.

Lacazette in particular is no longer the player he once was as he no longer has ‘the speed or the backbone’ and thus has difficulty expressing himself in a team as weak as Lyon.

That seems a little harsh given he has four goals and two assists in 10 Ligue 1 games this season, but those watching are not impressed.

As far as they’re concerned, the former Arsenal man is a dud and it’s going to take some turnaround for them to be convinced otherwise.
