Last week saw several fresh reports from the Spanish sport media of Manchester United interest in Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

The Red Devils were presented as leading the chase to sign the central defender, and it was explained the 24-year-old would welcome a summer move to Old Trafford, clearly seeing it as a big step in his career.

Over in Italy, Manchester United’s interest in Torres is seen as them backing away from Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, and Arsenal are also brought into the picture for the Spanish defender.

CalcioNapoli24 quote journalist Emanuele Cammaroto as saying: “Now, in the market of great defenders in Europe, the big players, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Arsenal, compete for Pau Torres.”

This is seen as the Manchester and Madrid clubs moving away from Koulibaly, and lays the ground for another summer of ‘hoaxes’ around the Napoli player, with the insinuation being he’ll once again be the subject of many rumours but end up staying with the Serie A club.

Koulibaly’s price tag and increasing years has seen him slip down the pecking order, and he missed his big chance of a move to Manchester City last summer when his club priced him too highly.

Pau Torres is thought to be an easier signing for any of Manchester United, Arsenal or Real Madrid.
