At the start of this week, reports coming out of Spain pushed Villarreal defender Pau Torres towards Manchester United.

The centre-back has been identified as a target by the Red Devils, while he’s also on the radar of other clubs.

Unai Emery, the La Liga side’s manager, gave an interview to Radio Marca, where he advised the 24-year-old to join either Real Madrid or Barcelona, if he decides to leave the Yellow Submarine.

“If Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona want Villarreal players, it’s a source of pride. And Pau Torres? Double, because he’s also from here. If he leaves here, he has to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona,” Emery said.

The former Arsenal manager’s comments have been relayed by La Razón and they then provide their own information on the Spain international’s case.

It’s claimed both Los Blancos and the Catalan club ‘would not have planned to bid’ for the player, despite being an option for the next market.

Barcelona were the ‘first to renounce’ any chances of signing Torres. Real Madrid, on other hand, are focusing to take Bayern Munich’s David Alaba on a free transfer.

With the two Spanish giants having ‘discarded’ signing Torres, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side get a mention at the end of the report. It’s stated Manchester United are the team that’s ‘best positioned’ to acquire the signature of the Villarreal central defender.

In addition to this, Torres’ environment has slipped the information he ‘would welcome’ a move to Old Trafford.
