Building their new state of the art youth facilities, Manchester City have been keen to fill them up with plenty of talented youngsters, even if the vast majority of them might not ever make the first-team, instead being loaned out à la Chelsea.
This time, the Cityzens have apparently taken an interest in a 14-year-old forward playing for Caen’s U17s in France, yet their path won’t be clear, with locals rivals Manchester United also hovering.
According to Le Parisien in France, both José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola’s sides have contacted the Ligue 1 club about Elye Wahi.
Despite being two to three years younger than most, the young forward scored both his team’s goals in a 5-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain U17s during his first game at that level.
Likened to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain by a Premier League scout present at the game, the 14-year-old is described as a ‘powerful, technical, quick and agile’ forward, who, despite all the positives, needs to work on being a bit less ‘individualistic’.
Unable to sign for a foreign club until he turns 16, there still some time for him to develop some more before getting his big move, although, by then, he might have already pledged his allegiance to his current club.
Who knows what the future holds for Elye Wahi? A move to the Etihad or Old Trafford certainly sounds nice.
