Sent to FC Utrecht to get some regular first-team football by Manchester United, Matty Willock’s start to his Dutch career has been rather mixed.
Making his debut last Friday in a 4-1 loss to De Graafschap, the 21-year-old was substituted in the 59th minute.
However, his second attempt was far more successful on Wednesday night as the Eredivisie side faced Ajax’s amateur side in the KNVB Beker, the Dutch Cup.
Winning the game 6-0, Utrecht had the Manchester United loanee to thank as De Telegraaf state the central midfielder scored a nice lob, described as ‘the most beautiful goal of the evening’.
Impressing the Dutch newspaper with his dynamism and ‘high-running power’, Willock will undoubtedly be hoping to build on this performance and remain in the first-team throughout the season.
Joining Manchester United from Reading in 2012, the young midfielder has gradually made his way through the club’s youth system, even making the first-team bench on a couple of occasions last year under José Mourinho, against West Brom in April and Crystal Palace on May 21st.
