At the end of last month, we relayed news from Spain that Manchester City ‘intend’ to sign Rodri from Atletico Madrid in the summer.
The same report also explained the midfielder is happy with Los Rojiblancos and his idea is to continue with his current employer beyond this season. Diego Simeone also endorsed this idea in April.
That no longer seems to be the case. Cadena Ser’s program El Larguero are certain the 22-year-old ‘will leave the club’ and he is receiving attention from three top clubs.
Apart from Manchester City, Pep Guardiola’s former clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also ‘interested’ in paying his €70m release clause.
It’s further explained Atletico are aware of the interest, so are planning for Rodri’s exit.
Atletico have identified Real Madrid’s Marcos Llorente as the possible replacement.
Llorente’s agent is scheduled to have a meeting with Atletico next week and the Spaniard’s desire is to continue playing in Madrid.
This would be a relatively simple signing for Manchester City, and one which makes sense given the need to replace Fernandinho.
