To see Watford and Udinese sell players to each other these days isn’t anything new, as they are both owned by the Pozzo family.

Some deals have been successful, others not as much, but the Serie A side are pleased with their acquisition of Adam Masina, who spoke to Corriere dello Sport on Friday about his summer move.

The left-back was keen to return to Italy, and eventually got what he wanted when Udinese paid €5m to acquire the now 29-year-old.

He started off well, but was unfortunate to suffer a cruciate ligament rupture towards the end of August; an injury that kept him out until February.

Masina then returned, only to end up picking up an adductor issue earlier this month, which has led to him missing the last two games, including a 3-1 win over Milan.

Still, he’s happy with the move away from Watford, explaining why it came about, all the while pointing out he initially wanted to return to Bologna.

He said: “I had decided to leave Watford and go home, so I made a call through my agent. Bologna told me why not, let’s think about it. After a delay, we called back and the intentions of the technical director, Giovanni Sartori, were to bet on other players. He was clear, very sincere. I thank him for that.”
