Having sold or release a lot of their midfield, Liverpool are on a mission to improve it this summer, and Roméo Lavia is one of their targets.

That’s become clear after three failed bids for the Belgian midfielder, currently contracted to Southampton, with the Saints proving to be a tough nut to crack despite their relegation to the Championship.

One of the journalists who has been on top of the entire Liverpool saga since the beginning has been Sacha Tavolieri, who took to Twitter on Tuesday to bring the latest development.

He explains that after the third bid of £45m or so being rejected, Lavia’s camp have refused to give up on the transfer, and are ‘looking to close the deal today’.

It’s pointed out that the midfielder was ‘not included’ in Southampton’s squad for today’s clash against Gillingham in the EFL Cup and wasn’t part of the training camp this morning, meaning there could be something transfer related with that.

The Saints have always seemed to be willing to sell at the right offer, and this suggests it could be on its way.

That’s good news for Liverpool, who might now be enticed into upping their offer that tiny bit more to please everyone, including the player.
