Flamengo’s João Gomes continues to be linked with both Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Sport are the latest newspaper to cover about the 21-year-old and how the Reds and the La Liga winners would approach his signing.

It’s explained that Liverpool are ‘going to make it difficult’ for Los Blancos to secure the midfielder’s services.

Casemiro’s move to Manchester United last month, coupled with Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos coming to the end of their careers, has made the Champions League winners focus on a new midfielder.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will look at the Brazilian, after the World Cup in Qatar. They don’t intend to offer more than €30m to Flamengo for the star. Gomes signed a contract until 2027 and it has a €60m release clause. Despite this, Real Madrid want to take him for half that figure.

Flamengo are not ready to offer discounts and refer to the player’s clause. Liverpool don’t seem to have an issue with this as the report says they would be ‘willing to put the money on the table’ for the South American.

Jürgen Klopp has been without several midfielders this term due to injuries. Therefore, the Merseyside club are looking to sign a new player in the same position in January. Sport explains that Gomes could be an option for the Reds.

On September 20th, Sport Witness reported there has been no active interest from either Liverpool or Real Madrid in Gomes.

A day later, Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz confirmed they have not received an offer for the player nor have any approaches been made for him.
