It seems Liverpool made a late effort in the summer window to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.
This information is today brought by Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who claims that the Reds made an attempt to land the 25-year-old in the ‘last few days’.
His transfer to Liverpool, however, was ‘impossible’, according to the report, even though a deal in the future is not ruled out right now.
Laimer’s contract with RB Leipzig expires at the end of the season, and Plettenberg claims that an extension with the Bundesliga side is ‘very unlikely’.
So with a ‘totally possible’ free move next summer, a couple of clubs are already interested in that scenario. Liverpool are said to be one of them, along with Bayern Munich.
Plettenberg claims there’s ‘more to come in the next months’, as it sounds obvious that other competitors will show up trying to sign him for free.
It isn’t said how much Liverpool tried to pay to land Laimar now and avoid that kind of competition, but Leipzig seem set against it. On Transfermarkt, he’s valued at €28m.
