Marca can usually be relied upon for a more sensible look at Barcelona’s current efforts to sign Philippe Coutinho.

Not being one of the Catalan newspapers, Marca aren’t biased towards Barcelona. That doesn’t mean they go the other way, with the Madrid press looking to cover the whole country.

In their Friday edition, Marca report that whilst the Liverpool transfer ‘remains on the table’ for Barcelona in January, it’s going to be very difficult indeed.

As almost always, it comes down to money, with Marca saying the club’s purse holders aren’t happy about such a high cost transfer given Barcelona’s financial situation.

With a wage bill way too high, Barcelona are under serious pressure to bring it down before any further big signings, and that makes Coutinho likelier for the summer.

So, Marca believe that despite day after day of big Catalan Coutinho stories pointing towards January, Liverpool may be able to feel a little comfier until next summer, at least as far as a Barcelona effort is concerned.
