Juventus are keen on signing a midfielder in the January window to help them have a better second half of the season.

The Turin club are currently in eighth position and find themselves a huge 14 points behind leaders Napoli and AC Milan. Usually that would see talk of a managerial change, but given they only appointed Massimiliano Allegri in the summer, and gave him a four year contract, that doesn’t look on the cards.

With it clear that all Juve’s problems weren’t solely down to Andrea Pirlo and Cristiano Ronaldo, squad additions are being targeted. They want someone for the middle of the park, and that could see them come up against Liverpool.

Gazzetta dello Sport report Axel Witsel has been a target, but there’s now doubts around the Borussia Dortmund player, given he turns 33-years-of-age in January. That takes Juve to younger options, such as Borussia Monchengladbach’s 24-year-old Denis Zakaria.

Gazzetta present Liverpool as a problem in the way for Juventus, with it claimed Jurgen Klopp’s side ‘have taken an interest’ in the player.

As far as Zakaria’s preferences are concerned, it’s explained he fancies a move to Barcelona, and wouldn’t be against the Premier League, which ‘seems designed’ for him.

Juventus ‘have a chance’, yet Liverpool making a move would present a real hurdle for the club.
