Emre Can’s comments about not having agreed to move anywhere, and a Liverpool renewal still being possible, were always going to get a reply from the Italian media.
There’s been huge confidence in Italy that Can is going to become a Juventus player, with it seen as a matter of when and not if the midfielder arrives in Turin.
It’s been going on for months and whilst the chances of a January move have been talked down in recent weeks, the confidence of a free transfer has gone up.
Calciomercato have a very straight-to-the-point response to the German international’s comments. It’s explained Can was speaking out of respect for Liverpool and denied any agreement elsewhere because he ‘does not want to create tension’ with manager Jurgen Klopp.
From an Italian perspective, the stance is certainly a believable one. If Can announced he was set to move to Juventus then that could harm his chances for the rest of the season at Liverpool.
With the World Cup on the horizon, Can doesn’t want to be ostracised at Anfield, and it’s understandable, if he has agreed to sign for Juventus, that he’d rather keep his cards close to his chest.
