Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool on Wednesday evening is of course receiving a big reaction in the Italian media.

Gazzetta dello Sport have five pages covering the victory.

One headline reads ‘Napoli, you are great’ and they celebrate a performance which could have easily seen the Serie A side score more goals.

When it comes to player ratings, Piot Zielinski, linked to Liverpool himself repeatedly a couple of seasons back, is given 8.5/10 and named Il Migliore, which means The Best.

At the other end of the spectrum, Il Peggiore, meaning The Worst, is Joe Gomez who gets just 4/10.

Gazzetta say Gomez’s performance was ‘disastrous’, adding: ‘He loses balls and never manages to make up his mind.’

Harvey Elliott, Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, Firmino and Jurgen Klopp were also rated as 4/10. Gazzetta believe Liverpool’s best performer was Luis Diaz.

Over at Corriere dello Sport, they agree Gomez was the worst on the pitch and deserved just 4/10.

L’Equipe, a French newspaper known for giving harsh player ratings, judged Gomez’s performance as being worth just 2/10.

The heavy defeat comes during a mixed start to the season for the Reds, with them seventh in the Premier League and six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Next for Jurgen Klopp’s men is a home match against Wolves on Saturday.
