Ever since the transfer of Luis Diaz to Liverpool was confirmed, we’ve been getting completely different reactions from the Portuguese and the Colombian media.

In Porto, there’s a quite bad feeling about the move, as the Dragons are losing their main star and arguably did not get a lot of money for him.

Meanwhile, in the winger’s home country, there’s a clear pride about the transfer, as Diaz had a difficult start in his career and is now rewarded with the chance of featuring in the Premier League.

This subject is approached in an interview made by Caracol with Carlos Restrepo, who was manager of Colombia’s U-20 team back in 2017, when he gave the star the first chance of playing international football.

“We’re facing an example for the youth and the Colombian people,” Restrepo told Caracol.

“Luis Díaz is the case of someone who achieves success in a surprising way, with great will and great attitude. ‘Lucho’ had difficult moments throughout his journey, but he won and with his arrival at Liverpool, a wonderful event is culminated for absolutely everyone.”

The manager recalled that doctors did not believe Diaz would succeed on top level.

“Luis was always a boy who listened, had the attitude to train and, incidentally, earned his place, regardless of the diagnoses that were given at the time. In relation to his physical, that he was something that was always doubted for various reasons, but, especially, in the face of international competition.”

Now regarding the adaptation to Liverpool and the Premier League, Restrepo thinks Diaz’s game will match the ideas Jurgen Klopp has for the team.

“I feel that they carry out a rigorous study to make a determination and the expression of coach Jurgen Klopp with Luis Díaz is that he fits perfectly into the structure he wants. I think that due to the values that ‘Lucho’ has of listening, his desire, he has good attitude and relates well, he will have no problem shining in the Premier League.”
