The worst kept secret at Flamengo this week was that club officials Marcos Braz and Bruno Spindel would be travelling to Europe to try to buy Andreas Pereira from Manchester United.

Their flight was reported by several outlets in the past few days, and when the duo got to the airport last night, there were of course some journalists waiting for them there.

Flamengo’s vice-president Marcos Braz spoke to the local media, and explained that despite having Andreas Pereira on loan until the summer, they want to anticipate the talks with Manchester United and get the purchase done as soon as possible.

“The trip is mainly to see Andreas’ situation. Let’s try to buy the player and sit on the negotiation. We can’t wait until the end to find out what will happen. Let’s understand what the English want and hope that everything works out,” Marcos Braz told Canal FlaZoeiro (via Diario do Fla).

“I believe that on Friday we will have a meeting (in England). It’s evident that Flamengo will not pay the fixed amount. Let’s sit at the table. They already know we won’t pay that amount.”

Recent reports from the Brazilian media have been claiming that Flamengo submitted an offer of €8m for Andreas Pereira, but Manchester United did not even respond to that yet.

The midfielder’s loan includes a buying option worth €20m, and that’s the amount Marcos Braz is referring to when he says the Rio de Janeiro side will not pay it.
