Leeds United defender Robin Koch has insisted there is ‘no reason to panic’ about their current league position.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have found life tougher in their second season in the Premier League and currently sit 15th in the table, seven points from the relegation zone.

That’s a far cry from their position after 21 games last season when Leeds sat 11th in the table and 15 points away from the relegation zone.

It’s led to fears they could be dragged into the mix at some point, particularly as Covid-19 and injuries have hit their squad and Marcelo Bielsa refuses to postpone games, instead preferring to blood youngsters.

That admirable stance has earned him plenty of praise, but there are fears about the coming months, especially after they were beaten by Newcastle last time around.

That demoralising defeat came on the back of a huge victory over West Ham and a similarly good performance against relegation-threatened Burnley at the beginning of the month.

Those gave Bielsa and co much-needed points, and Koch is convinced they were a demonstration that Leeds need not worry about the battle at the bottom.

“We had two important victories in January and gained some breathing space,” he told Germany’s Express.

“Against Newcastle, we could have made a huge step; actually, we should have. It was an unfortunate game from my point of view.

“But there is no reason to panic. We have a very good team, and I am sure we will finish the season positively.”
