Liverpool moved last night to try and get a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister over the line.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Reds ‘already have an agreement’ in place for the World Cup winner.

They say that an agreement is in place with Brighton for the midfielder to move to Anfield this summer in a €60m deal and last night’s contacts were an attempt to sort out terms with the player.

Those negotiations went on until ‘late at night’ in an effort to ‘balance the salary’ and convince Mac Allister on Liverpool being his best destination despite them potentially not being in the Champions League next season.

Jurgen Klopp and co are offering a five-year deal worth around €5m plus bonuses to the player and yesterday’s negotiations helped to bring the two parties ‘much closer’ compared to where they were earlier in the day.

Whether they were so successful that Mac Allister now has them at the top of his list over other suitors remains to be seen, but Liverpool’s effort late last night appears to have at least had a positive effect on their chances.
