Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg is expected to undergo a medical at Schalke today ahead of a proposed loan move to the German club.

That’s according to BILD, who say it is ‘quite possible’ that he will be presented to the fans at a public training session.

Van den Berg returned to Liverpool from a successful spell with Preston North End last season and had featured for Jurgen Klopp in pre-season.

There is big competition for places in Liverpool’s back line, though, with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konaté and Joe Gomez all available this season.

That leaves the Dutch youngster far down the pecking order and it seems another loan deal is on the cards, this time in Germany.

Several reports have made it clear that Schalke are keen on him a replacement for Malick Thiaw, who is on his way to AC Milan.

BILD back that up and state that the defender is ‘expected’ to be at Schalke today for a medical and there is even a chance he could be presented to fans at a public training session.

Sky Germany, meanwhile, say that Van den Berg travelled to Gelsenkirchen with his advisors on Monday to listen to Schalke’s proposal in person.

Like BILD, they are optimistic of a deal being ‘almost done’, with their journalist Florian Plettenburg reporting that Van den Berg wants the move.

According to his information, only the final details of the move ‘have to be clarified’, such as whether a purchase clause will be included or not, but the loan move will be going through regardless.
