Called up as a last minute reinforcement by Didier Deschamps for his France squad for the Qatar World Cup, Marcus Thuram will now have a chance to showcase his ability on the biggest of stages.

This comes at a very important time for the player, whose contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach is set to expire next summer, meaning he will be free to talk to clubs from January onwards.

Among those likely to take an interest are Liverpool, who have been touted as a keen suitor in recent times for the forward.

While they are normally rather plentiful up top, the departures of Divock Origi and Sadio Mané mixed with the numerous injuries they have sustained to date have left the Reds a bit short in their attacking sector of late.

That’s why the addition of a new option either for the second half of the season or the next campaign could be very welcome, which is where Thuram would come in.

Fussball Transfers in Germany recall on Monday that Liverpool are one of the interested parties in the 25-year-old, who has 10 Bundesliga goals and three assists in 15 league games this season with the German side.

This comes as Gazzetta dello Sport have a big article on Inter being interested in the player, which has led to German outlet to recall their own information.

They previously published a claim that the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Milan, Villarreal and Real Sociedad were all keen, and the Reds’ interest is brought to the fore again on Monday.

They state that Jürgen Klopp’s side ‘have him on the list’ of transfers they would like to make, but it would certainly all depend on what the player wants to do going forward.

Does he see himself finishing the season at Gladbach and then leaving on a free, or does he want to repay them by transferring in January for a small fee? Time will tell.
