Ezgjan Alioski is one of a number of Leeds United players currently away on international, and the Macedonian will be enjoying it more than most.
Macedonia managed a very good 1-1 draw with Italy on Friday, made even more impressive by the fact it was a home match for the Azzurri.
Alioski had predicted a good result for his country, going into the match full of confidence.
The Leeds United attacker spoke to Macedonia’s Alsat before the match, and shared his buoyant mood: “I expect a very good game. I think that we can achieve a good result. We played very well against Italy in Skopje, but we were unlucky not to win a point. However, we had a good performance against Israel and Albania and with that form we should play in this match. If we play well, we can wachieve a good result.”
The Leeds star got his prediction pretty much right and Macedonia caused Italy more problems than expected. Failing to win the match has caused a commotion in the Italian media, and several members of the team have been criticised by Gazzetta dello Sport.
One of those escaping much of the blame is Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta, who had to play well against Alioski, and did so… explain Gazzetta dello Sport.
In their player ratings for the match, the Leeds United player is described as ‘Lively, cunning, quick feet’, but Zappacosta did well to keep a hold of him.
