For the past few days, multiple reports coming out of the Spanish press have said Atlético Madrid’s Matheus Cunha and Felipe join Wolverhampton Wanderers in the winter market.

On Wednesday, Globo Esporte backed up these claims and stressed the Brazilian duo will move to the Premier League.

It was also stated Wolves are ‘discussing amounts and conditions’ with the La Liga side to bring both the forward and the defender to Molineux.

Later that day, Julen Lopetegui attended Cadena Ser’s program, El Larguero, where he confirmed the Premier League side’s interest in the two Atlético players.

When asked about signing Cunha and Felipe, he said: “We have quite a few open options, at the moment we have nothing closed. If we can close them as soon as possible, better. Both Cunha and Felipe are options to sign in the January market, they are to our liking. The important thing is to create a good group.”

With the former Real Madrid manager now publicly revealing his side’s interest in the duo, the deal is likely to go through in the next window.

Lopetegui joined Wolves last month after spending more than three seasons at Sevilla, where he worked alongside Monchi. The 56-year-old has now admitted he would like to bring the La Liga side’s sporting director to England.

“Monchi? He is a very honest guy, of course I would sign him to take him to Wolves,” the manager explained.

Regarding his move to Wolves, Lopetegui said: “It’s a team that has been competing at a high level. It won’t be easy, but it excites us and motivates us. We were excited to be in the Premier League.”
