Danish newspaper BT claims Real Madrid and Barcelona used intermediaries and agents to find out from Tottenham Hotspur about Christian Eriksen’s price tag.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy demanded well over one billion kroner, which is above €100m. The two clubs were unable to meet the English side’s asking price, while Levy had no intention to sanction his player’s sale.
The former Ajax man is considered as important as Harry Kane for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Eriksen’s €100m+ price tag can fend off any potential suitors, his representative will use that to their advantage while negotiating for a new contract.
He has two years left on his contract and his camp has already informed the north London club that the midfielder should be paid relative to the price tag quoted by Levy.
This could prove costly for Tottenham as they do not hand the majority of their players a lucrative deal, when compared to other top Premier League clubs.
If both parties can find an agreement soon, he will sign an extension, otherwise he could be sold either in January or next summer. Therefore, everything depends on how the contract negotiations will take shape in the coming weeks and months.
