Leicester City legend Kasper Schmeichel isn’t having an easy time at Anderlecht.

Since his arrival at the Belgian side at the start of the season, the goalkeeper has been getting much criticism, and that’s now getting considered over the top by some.

DH today features a story about that. Following the comments made about Schmeichel’s performance at the weekend, they invited former Anderlecht goalkeepers to bring their opinion on the situation.

Jacky Muranon claimed that it was not Schmeichel’s fault for the goal he conceded, as the former Leicester City player did the best in that play.

“I would rather put the goal on the back of the defence, which is too lax. There are two or three close to Maziz but they let him arm his shot! This was Riemer’s analysis and he was right.”

Filip De Wilde claimed that Schmeichel is actually being unfairly pursued by critics.

“Of course! He was still the hero of Anderlecht a few weeks ago. The bar is set so high for him that it is impossible for him to meet expectations. He almost has to play perfectly to avoid being criticised. I feel like he’s the victim of a witch hunt.”

Kasper Schmeichel left Leicester City in the summer of 2022. He initially joined OGC Lille in a €1m deal, and after a year in France, he was free to join Anderlecht on a season-long contract, with the option for an extra year.

Since his arrival in Belgium, he’s been the club’s main goalkeeper, with 14 starts so far, conceding 15 goals and keeping two clean sheets.
