It seems Leicester City were interested in Benfica defender Morato during the summer transfer window.

The information comes from Brazil, where journalist André Hernan reports the player’s new contract with the Eagles. It’s said he signed a new two-year deal with the Lisbon side.

Hernan then shares a few details about Benfica’s recent efforts to keep the player. It’s said they turned down three offers from Rennes, with the last being worth €15m plus 20% of a future move.

Then it’s claimed that Leicester City and Milan were two other clubs who’d shown their interest in the summer, even though it sounds like neither of the two actually placed bids for the signing.

There’s no information on whether the Foxes would still be interested in landing the 21-year-old, even though Benfica would certainly make it harder for him to leave after the new deal.

Following the departure of Wesley Fofana to Chelsea, Leicester City only signed one centre-back this summer, as they took Wout Faes from Stade Reims in a €17m deal.
