As Sport Witness covered earlier on Sunday, Leeds United have got tough with Sporting over a potential transfer of Tobias Figueiredo.
Linked with the central defender for some weeks, with claims coming straight from Portugal, Sporting probably got too carried away with their initial demands on a transfer. Wanting €3-4m to complete a permanent January transfer for the player, Sporting haven’t exactly been inundated with buyers.
Leeds United are the only club repeatedly and seriously linked, and it was unlikely they’d simply bow to such demands. A Bola stated Leeds have made it known they’ll go for a loan, and if such an offer isn’t wanted by Sporting, then the Championship club will walk away.
Sporting’s asking price is inflated, given they paid less than half of that for the player, and he isn’t actually playing for them.
Therefore a loan, with a permanent clause, seems reasonable for Leeds United to offer. Should no other clubs come forward, and it can be sure no other Portuguese club will pay the asking price, then Sporting will have to compromise if they want a January deal… and that, as it stands, would given Leeds United a good chance of signing the player.
