Argentine outlet El Intransigente today brings another story about the race for River Plate defender Lucas Martinez Quarta.

Their report claims that he’s one of the favourites to leave the Buenos Aires club in the coming months, since there are many European sides who’ve been interested in his signing.

Leeds United continue to be named as the main contenders for the 24-year-old. El Intransigente writes that the Whites are the ‘closest’ to the player at this stage.

But there’s still some big competition for this transfer. It’s claimed that Celta Vigo, Hertha Berlin, AC Milan and Real Betis are all following Quarta as well.

El Intransigente writes that Quarta is protected by a release clause of US$22m, and even though it’s unlikely that any club will pay that much for him, there are still good chances of a deal.

The reason for that is River Plate are in need of money, and will do their best to get a good agreement for the defender’s departure this summer.
