The media local to Carpi continue to have some confidence Jerry Mbakogu will end up at Leeds United this summer, and refuse to believe the deal is dead.

Gazzetta di Modena have been following the situation continually, and seem to have good contacts at the Serie B club.

In their Sunday edition, the Italian newspaper say there’s optimism a positive conclusion can be found to transfer negotiations which are described as ‘exhausting’. Between Carpi and Leeds United there’s said to be ‘ping-pong’ going on, which is likely a reference to the talks continuing to have some issues.

Last week the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Leeds have told Carpi the deal isn’t happening, but that report was immediately dismissed to Gazzetta di Modena, and they certainly don’t think the Championship club have completely walked away.

It’s perhaps a surprise that Carpi aren’t making efforts to sell the player elsewhere, and he has a good reputation in Serie B despite his statistics not looking the best.
