IFK Norrkoping right back Linus Wahlqvist has confirmed with the Swedish media he doesn’t expect to be ruled out for long after picking up an injury earlier this week.
There were initial fears the Leeds United target had sustained a serious injury following his immediate departure against Djurgårdens on Monday night.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Wahlqvist has revealed he felt the injury straight away, but said it only turned out to be a sprain. The Sweden international got his studs caught in Djurgadens’ artificial pitch, and after speculation he could be on the sidelines for a long period, the 20-year-old confirmed he only expects to be out for a short spell.
“It’s a sprain, so there is no danger. You usually know when it happens and I felt my foot. There is one week to the next game, I hope to be back then. So this is not a problem,” said the Swede.
Wahlqvist’s news will come as a relief to the clubs looking to sign the youngster in the next window, including Leeds United. Leeds United have already tried to sign the fullback, making an approach for the Sweden international last summer.
Throughout this season Leeds United have continued to be linked with the youngster in the Swedish media, and it’s expected they will again show interest in the next window.
