Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca has admitted that he had “serious doubts” about joining the club but a conversation with Victor Orta soon changed that.

Roca joined Leeds in a summer move from Bayern Munich, where he had been for two years following a move from Espanyol.

He struggled during his two years with the German side, where he failed to establish himself as a first-team regular or build on the promise he had shown during his time in Spain.

He has very much reignited his career since arriving at Leeds, becoming a key player under Jesse Marsch, making 19 appearances in the Premier League this season and featuring in 83% of the available minutes.

The move is one he has not regretted thus far, even admitting in an interview that it has been the best thing for him.

It seems he needed some convincing at first, though, something Leeds chief Orta was more than happy to do.

“In terms of adapting to football, I don’t think it had much impact, but I do think it had an impact on me in terms of making the decision,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“When Leeds came to me, I had serious doubts about whether to take the opportunity or not, but after meeting Víctor (Orta), after talking to him, after he presented the project to me, after he introduced me to it.

“Especially the situation I was in, when, when I spoke to him about football, about how he saw mine, because what he saw in me was what I saw in me. So I think that at that moment, we connected.

“”From then on it was much easier for me and it was very clear to me that I had to go to Leeds. In that sense I do think that Victor played a very, very important role.”
