At this point, it’s fair to say that AS Roma are getting rather frustrated with West Ham United when it comes to Gianluca Scamacca.

That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport are putting forward on Monday, as they cover the Serie A side’s pursuit of the striker, who wants to leave the Hammers to play under José Mourinho, if possible.

Roma have tried time and time again to convince West Ham to let the forward leave on a loan with a view to buy, but their attempts have been met by a brick wall, since David Moyes’ side refuse to let him leave unless it’s a permanent deal.

Gazzetta cover this on Monday, and headline the article ‘the last call’, meaning that the Italians are essentially giving the Premier League side an ultimatum.

They make it clear that if West Ham ‘don’t give up’ on their stance, Roma will ‘change their target’, with Atlético Madrid’s Alvaro Morata on their list.

Currently in Australia with the London side, Scamacca does have a ‘direct line’ with his entourage and family, which gives him access to what is happening behind the scenes.

Therefore, he is ‘well aware that these are the decisive days’ regarding a potential exit from West Ham, and knows that his dream of heading back to Rome is currently ‘slowly slipping out of his hands’.

For that to turn around, there would be a need for a big step on the accelerator from the Italians, who have agreed to move from an option to buy to a compulsory one, but only if certain objectives are met.

Those are a set number of appearances, goals and qualification to the Champions League, with all needed to be met to trigger the clause.

That is quite a lot to achieve, which West Ham are aware of, which is the sticking point.

Down his end, Scamacca has done ‘everything possible’ to get his exit, including a long interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, which allowed him to express his feelings without actively stating he absolutely wants to leave the Hammers.

However, José Mourinho ‘doesn’t want to wait any longer’, and wants his squad ready as early as possible.

That’s the problem Scamacca is currently facing, and unless West Ham suddenly change their mind, he appears set for an extended stay at London Stadium.
